Education, achieving good marks, and bringing glory to the family are all things that most African families are passionate about.
Yes, being academically responsible is a good thing, but not all children enjoy it, and it actually reduces their IQ.
There are many children that think beyond the box, that is, who have creative imaginations and create their own realities.
When the exam comes, they write answers outside the box; what happens next is that the school system marks them down and rewards those who simply know the syllabus with good certifications, best graduating students, and paparazzi.
It's past time for us to start looking for merit rather than certificates. Take our engineering students as an example; all they could do was answer arithmetic problems, and most of them couldn't handle it when it came to practicals.
I believe that employers should begin providing practical training to their employees before hiring them, so that we can determine who is qualified.
